Welcome to the part Filipino podcast, the podcast for people who aren’t quite sure if they actually count this Filipino.
My name is Leland Faux and I’m half Filipino. I hope you’ll join me as I explore what it means to be part Filipino.
This is the inaugural episode of the part Filipino podcast and, just by way of introduction,
I wanted to introduce you to what this is and also what this isn’t. And I’m going to start by telling you what this isn’t.
I am NOT This American Life or one of those highly-produced radio programs.
What this is is just some rando guy on the internet, which is me in my bedroom closet — nothing fancy — just exploring what it means to be part Filipino. And my assumption is that there are a lot of people out there that are like me that are part Filipino or mixed heritage that just want to connect with what it means to be part Filipino, or want to connect with other people who share the same experience — which is that we’re living in kind of two worlds. One world being we’re part Filipino, and the other world being we’re part not Filipino.
In my case, my father’s a white guy from Utah and my mom is Filipino from Manila. I was actually born in Quezon City. So I think I could actually claim Filipino citizenship
I have to look into that. And that’s going to be one of the things I’m going to explore.
But just by way of introduction to the to the podcast, if this is something that you’re open to being a part of — again, it’s just a real-time learning-as-we-go podcast.
Nothing fancy. No thrills or frills.
This is not something where I have ten episodes in mind and I’m going to wrap it up a nice conclusion at the end of those ten episodes and put everything in a bow.
I’m exploring what it means to be part Filipino along with you. And I’m hoping that you’ll join me. I’m hoping this will be something interesting and I’m hoping that you’ll stick around.
